Sexual Assault Awareness Month 2026

Update April 30, 2026

SAAM Day of Action

Our Executive Director attended the April 7th commissioners meeting, where she delivered a formal statement recognizing Sexual Assault Awareness Month and the impact of sexual violence in our community. She emphasized the importance of supporting survivors and reaffirmed the commitment of our agency and agencies across the commonwealth to those affected by sexual violence. A proclamation like this keeps the issue at the forefront throughout April and encourages community members to come together to prevent sexual violence.

Trivia at the Barn Tavern

Our Trivia event at The Barn Tavern was a wonderful success and a fun way to bring the community together in support of our work. Teams packed the space and brought lots of energy and mostly friendly competition, making for a lively afternoon of laughs and learning. Thanks to the generosity of everyone who attended, the event helped raise both funds and awareness for our programs. We were having such a great time at trivia that we forgot to take pictures! But even without photos, we’re grateful to everyone who showed up, joined a team, or helped spread the word, and we’re looking forward to more trivia in the future.

Denim Day at the Sullivan County Library

Our display in the library window featured information about the history of Denim Day and simple ways community members can get involved. We also highlighted local resources, including how to contact our agency for support and how to access services at any time.

We are deeply grateful to the Sullivan County Library for generously sharing their front-window space and partnering with us to bring this message to the heart of the community. By hosting the display in such a visible, well-loved public space, the Library helped us reach people of all ages and backgrounds, spark important conversations, and raise awareness for Denim Day and for survivors throughout Sullivan County.

Denim Day Coffee Drive-By

Thank you to everyone who stopped in for coffee and/or pastries on April 29th. Whether you grabbed a cup to go on your way to work, stayed to chat with our staff, or simply waved from your car, your presence helped make our Denim Day Coffee Drive-By feel warm and welcoming.

Throughout the morning, we had the chance to share information about Sexual Assault Awareness Month, talk about why we wear denim on Denim Day, and let folks know about the free, confidential services our agency provides to survivors and their loved ones. Your conversations, questions, and words of encouragement reinforced how many people in our community care deeply about supporting survivors and ending sexual violence.

We’re grateful to everyone who took the time to visit. Your participation not only brightened our morning but also helped raise awareness and show survivors that they are believed and are not alone.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

To honor the history of the sexual violence prevention movement the theme for SAAM this year is Looking Back, Moving Forward: Turning Awareness into Action.

You can join in on NSVRC's #30DaysofSAAM Instagram challenge. Find out more here.

Week 1: The Roots of the Movement

We'll be looking back on the history and the accomplishments of the movement to end sexual assault, abuse, and harassment. We'll also be sharing SCVS's history and how we have been working to support survivors and end sexual violence in Sullivan County.

Week 2: Survivors at the Center

QRCode for Share Your StorySurvivors have always been and will always be the foundation of this movement. No survivor's experience is the same and it's important to listen to each survivor's story to honor the challenges they've overcome and the healing they are working towards. There are several ways to share your story this month, whether you are a survivor, an advocate, or an ally, we want to hear from you!

Join us on April 7, the SAAM Day of Action, where we’ll join the county commissioners to formally present proclamations for SAAM and National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, demonstrating how our community is coming together to support survivors and stand up for justice.

Week 3: From Awareness to Action: Prevention is a Shared Responsibility

Preventing sexual violence takes action on every level: individual, community, organizations, and systems. This week we'll be sharing about the prevention work that SCVS is doing and how you can help create environments that promote safety, accountability, and respect.

Week 4: Envisioning the FutureOVA Color me Aware Campaign

We'll be looking ahead at how we will pursue a future focused on healing and preventing sexual violence. This week also happens to coincide with NCVRW. You can participate in the Office of Victim Advocate's Color Me Aware campaign. Each day of the week you can wear the assigned color to show your support for victims of crime.

On April 19th The Barn Tavern will be hosting Trivia to benefit SCVS.  Trivia starts at 2pm and is $10/person. Each entry includes hot dogs, chips, and soda. Adult beverages and menu items from the Barn are available for purchase. Teams can have up to 6 players and there will be prizes for top 3 teams, basket raffles, and a 50/50 drawing. Seating is first come, first served so make sure to arrive early to grab your table.Trivia Fundraiseer (Facebook Fundraiser Cover Photo)

Week 5: Our Legacy, Our Commitment and Denim Week

We'll be closing out SAAM, by renewing our commitment to helping survivors and preventing sexual violence. Each day in Denim week has a different theme covering an important aspect of ending sexual assault. Learn more about Denim Week here.

On Wednesday, April 29th, we'll be participating in Denim Day and we'll be holding a Coffee and Pastries event to give our community an opportunity to come together to support survivors and bring awareness to the work that still needs to be done. Stop in between 7:30 and 9:30 and enjoy the complimentary coffee and pastries. You can join us in person for coffee and conversation, or, if you can’t make it, simply wear denim and share the story behind Denim Day to help raise awareness wherever you are. Learn why we wear denim here.
