## School Prevention Programs

[Second Step Bullying Prevention](https://news.sulcovs.org/august-2026-prevention-education-update) was completed in all grades this month. Students learned about recognizing, refusing, and reporting bullying, including cyberbullying. They learned more about being a supportive bystander and how they can be a buddy to kids who are being bullied.

[Too Good for Drugs and Violence (TGFD/V)](https://news.sulcovs.org/september-2026-prevention-education-update) has continued in 5th, 6th, and 7th grades. Those three grades are all around the 5th lesson of the program, where we begin transitioning from building students' protective factors like communication skills and positive relationships. These students will now be able to apply those skills while learning more about the effects and negative consequences of different substances. In grades K through 4, students are just beginning the program and like in the upper grades will begin their Too Good journey by developing protective factors. 8th grade will be starting TGFD/V in November.

Students in 7th grade Thrive that are participating in [SAFE-T](https://news.sulcovs.org/september-2026-prevention-education-update) have been learning about empathy and coping with our emotions. They've also been learning about respecting boundaries and the similarities and differences between flirting, joking, and sexual harassment.

The Thrive students have also wrapped up [CATCH My Breath](https://news.sulcovs.org/september-2026-prevention-education-update). CMB ends by having the students reflect on all they've learned and design a social media post to counteract the online marketing tactics of the tobacco industry. The students drew a design and came up with a caption and hashtags to share their message. They also got to practice some low-stakes public speaking by presenting their design to the class.

Students in 8th grade have completed [Safe Dates](https://news.sulcovs.org/september-2026-prevention-education-update)<https://www.blueprintsprograms.org/programs/44999999/safe-dates/>. The final lessons of the program focus on managing your anger and communicating in a SAFE manner by Staying calm, Asking questions, Finding out feelings, and Exchanging ideas. The program aimed to teach students the skills to develop healthy relationships.

## SADD

SADD club has restarted for the 2026/2027 school year. We have a small but motivated group and we plan on accomplishing a lot! This month we quickly organized a Purple Thursday event, but we spent a majority of our two meetings electing officers and discussing our goals for SADD this year.

## Independent Living

At this month's IL meetings, we worked on developing some career skills. We discussed the difference between a job and a career, developing soft skills, and our long-term goals. We also spent some time prepping for our ghost-themed trunk-or-treat display. We always look forward to this event as an opportunity to get out into the community and have fun.
