SADD Club
Every year, on the third Thursday in November, the American Cancer Society encourages smokers to quit smoking or vaping for one day in the Great American Smokeout. They say: "Quitting smoking isn’t easy. It takes time. And a plan. You don’t have to stop smoking in one day. Start with day one."
SADD Club organized a "Grey Day" and encouraged their friends and classmates to wear grey to raise awareness of and show support for people participating in the Great American Smokeout. Leading up to Thursday, SADD made regular announcements highlighting both the immediate and long-term benefits of quitting smoking. SADD reminded their peers that while quitting smoking is hard, success is far more likely when people have encouragement from friends, family, and their broader school community. On the 20th, it was inspiring to see lots of students show up dressed in grey, creating a powerful visual representation of the support that SCHS is capable of.
Independent Living
This month in Independent Living we focused on grocery shopping and home safety. Students learned how to compare prices and make healthy, cost-effective choices while shopping. We also covered topics like avoiding common household accidents, preventing fires, responding to emergency situations and more.
