July Prevention Education Update

Camp FLEA

At Camp FLEA the Prevention Team gave a program on making good decisions. With three groups of around 15 kids we read the choose your own adventure story What Should Danny Do? on Vacation and then played the game Pillars of Power. Pillars of Power is a fun, fast-paced game that blends elements of dodgeball and basketball. Players earn cylinders by scoring baskets, then stack them to build pillars while defending and strategizing. The game emphasizes teamwork, decision-making, showing how every choice can lead to positive or negative outcomes.

Game: 6 PILLARS OF POWER! | Keeping Kids in Motion

Friendship House

We partnered with Friendship House's school-based behavioral health program in Sullivan County School District to deliver a summer session on the power of choice. We played a deal-or-no-deal style game called "Pick a Box". The kids could ask five questions about the two boxes in front of them. One box held something desirable (Oreos) and the other something undesirable (a can of carrots). We talked about how asking questions and getting more information can lead to making better decisions. Then we played Pillars of Power to put our decision-making skills into practice.

Summer, Stories, and Snacks

We held three more sessions of our Summer, Stories, and Snacks on July 3rd, July 17th, and July 24th. Once all the sessions wrap up at the end of the summer, we’ll share a complete recap highlighting the activities and experiences from this year’s program.
