SCVS will be participating in the Senior Health Fair at the Sullivan County Fair on Thursday, August 28th. This event is a great opportunity to connect with older adults in our community and raise awareness about an important issue: abuse in later life.
Abuse can affect individuals of any age, and it’s vital that older adults know they are not alone and that help is available. At SCVS, we provide free and confidential services to people of all ages and all communities who have experienced domestic violence, sexual violence, or other forms of abuse.
Staff will be available to answer questions, provide printed materials, and offer information about how to access support.

Violence in Later Life
Abuse in later life and elder abuse refer to harm inflicted on older adults. These forms of abuse can happen to any older adult in any community or setting. This page includes resources and references to help you better understand the dynamics and types of abuse older adults may face.
Older adults can be victims of human trafficking, abuse, and exploitation, often linked to domestic violence or sexual assault. Age-related vulnerabilities like isolation and dependency increase their risk. These crimes are underreported, but laws like Pennsylvania’s Act 105 offer protection.
The National Clearinghouse on Abuse in Later Life (NCALL) offers resources and support for older adults experiencing abuse. It includes safety planning tools, contact information for national hotlines, and personal stories from survivors to raise awareness and encourage help-seeking.
